The Lindenwood gymnastics team overcame a slow start on Friday evening in Anchorage, Alaska and earned a dual win over Alaska Anchorage. The Lady Lions recorded a score of 190.625, compared to 189.325 for the home team.
The Lady Lions started on the bars and had two scores below 8.000, which dropped the team score to 46.650.
Emily Turik led the team with a 9.750, which was the highest score of the night on the event.
Aubree Horn and
Courtney Heise both had a 9.7000.
Lindenwood took over the lead for good after recording a 48.125 on the vault.
Alicia Floyd had the best performance on that event with a 9.725. That mark was also the top mark on the night.
The Lady Lions' third event was the floor and it recorded a 47.650.
Rachel Zabawa had a 9.675, which was tops on the team and tied for first in the competition.
Lindenwood sealed the win on the beam with a 48.200, the highest team score of the night for any event. Three Lady Lions, Floyd,
Valeri Ingui, and Zabawa, shared individual honors in that event with 9.750.
Emily Turik won the all-around title with a 38.250, bettering two all-around competitors from Alaska Anchorage.
Lindenwood and Alaska Anchorage will have a rematch on Sunday afternoon in Anchorage.
