After losing the first game of the series in overtime, the Lions were hoping to earn a split on Sunday afternoon, but those hopes were dashed with another close loss to Central Oklahoma 3-2 at the Lindenwood Ice Arena in Wentzville, Mo.
The Lions fell behind early, giving up two goals to the Bronchos in the first 10 minutes, the second on a power play. Lindenwood broke the shutout with 7:04 remaining when Jeremy Edwards scored with help from Kevin Walters and Adam Newkirk.
Central Oklahoma extended its lead to 3-1 on a goal just 20 seconds into the second. The Lions countered midway through the period on a man-advantage chance from Rock Einersen, assisted by Walters and Lukas Daniels, but that would be the last offensive output from either team the rest of the game.
Lindenwood outshot the Bronchos 41 to 30 in the contest and the Lions went 1-3 on the power play while holding Central Oklahoma to a goal in four chances. Lindenwood net minder Cody Karpinski stopped 27 of the 30 shots he faced in a losing effort.
The Lions dropped to 0-3-1 and are still seeking their first win of the season. The task won't get any easier in their next series as they go on the road for a two game set against number four ranked Oklahoma October 10-11. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. that Friday and Saturday night in Oklahoma City, Okla.
