Lindenwood's women's ice hockey team got back on track in the last game of the three-game series, by defeating the Minnesota State 3-1 in Lindenwood Ice Arena.
The Lady Lions jumped out early again, scoring in the first minute of the first period for the second consecutive night against the Mavericks. This one came from junior
Lyndsay Kirkham on a rebound after a shot from
Shara Jasper. Jasper got eight shots off in the game, the one to reach the back of the net came in the first period during a power play. The Lady Lions went into the second period with a 2-0 lead.
Minnesota State bounced back in the second period scoring a goal of its own to cut Lindenwood's lead in half. The Mavericks outshot the Lions ten to three in the second period. The score was 2-1 at the end of the second period.
The third period was very quiet, up until Kirkham found herself on an empty net breakaway started on a pass from Jasper to seal the Lady Lions victory. The goal was Kirkham's second of the game, and Jasper's second assist.
Nicole Hensley had 26 saves to help the Lady Lions get the win.
The win moves Lindenwood's record to 7-13-1. The Lady Lions get next weekend off before they travel to Moon Township, Pa. to play conference opponent Robert Morris for a two-game series on January 23rd and 24th starting at 7 p.m. (6 p.m. central).
