Lions Can’t Hold Off Bobcats

The Lions carried a one goal lead late into the third period, but couldn't hold off Ohio, falling 3-2 Saturday night at the Lindenwood Ice Arena in Wentzville, Mo.

The Lions found the back of the net first in the contest when Jake Fairchild scored on the power play with help from Mike Lozano and Graham Zagrodney with 12:10 left in the first.  Lindenwood extended its lead early in the second when Lozano buried a shot off of a feed from Brandon Rumble.  The Bobcats cut into the advantage at the 11:11 mark, but the Lions defense kept the score 2-1 the rest of the period and well over halfway through the final frame.

That's when the normally stout Lindenwood defense had a momentary lapse that turned the game around.  After holding Ohio scoreless for over 20 minutes of game time, the Lions gave up two goals in a span of just 32 seconds.  The first came with 7:51 left in the game and the final blow with 7:19 remaining.  There was still time for Lindenwood to mount a comeback and at least send the game into overtime, but the Bobcats had other ideas.

Ohio held the shot advantage 33-26.  The Lions went 1-3 on the power play while the Bobcats were held scoreless on four man-advantage chances.  Cody Karpinski stopped 30 of the 33 shots he faced to take the loss for Lindenwood in goal.

The Lions dropped to 10-9-2 overall and fell to 7-3-1 in the Central States Collegiate Hockey League.  They'll try to split the series Sunday afternoon at home. The puck drops at 2 p.m. at the Lindenwood Ice Arena in Wentzville, Mo.  The game can be seen live via pay-per-view streaming at STL Sports Productions.
