Lindenwood's wrestling team defeated the #8 University of Central Oklahoma Bronchos, 19-16. The Lions started out by dominating in the lower weights, but lost some momentum during the middle weights, before being taken home by the heavier weights, and the Lindenwood fans in attendance.
Getting Lindenwood started off right, was 125-pound
Marco Tamayo, who beat Central Oklahoma's Zac D'Amico with a 5-3 decision. 144-pound
Kyle Webb stepped onto the mat and dominated every moment of his match, being up 10-0 after the first period, before finishing with a tech fall at 4:09. Webb's win gave Lindenwood an 8-3 lead going into
Terrel Wilbourn's match. Wilbourn picked up right where Webb left off, giving very little ground, as he dominated his way to a tech fall at 6:40, giving the Lions back-to-back tech falls. Lindenwood was up 13-3 and had plenty of momentum on its side.
The Lions went on a slide, allowing the Bronchos to take a 16-13 lead going into the 197-pound match.
Kenny Breaux came up big with a 6-3 decision victory to tie the dual back at 16, leaving only heavyweight Jacob Borgmeyer left. The crowd knew what was at stake, and made its presence felt attempting to help the heavyweight give the Lions a victory. Borgmeyer got off to a quick start, by getting a big first period takedown. Central Oklahoma answered back, by bringing it back to a tie of 4-4 going into the final period. Lindenwood's crowd cheered as loud as they could, helping Borgmeyer get the final takedown of the dual, which would help him get the 6-5 victory, giving Lindenwood a 19-16 win. The win gave the Lions their second MIAA victory of the season, eighth of the season.
Coming up next for the Lions is a visit to Warrensburg, Mo. to face the University of Central Missouri Mules for another MIAA dual on January 28th.
