Lions Comeback Falls Short

After falling behind by two goals, men's ice hockey rallied, but the comeback came up short in a 4-3 loss to Davenport Friday night on home ice.

The Panthers jumped on the Lions to build a 2-0 advantage after the first period.  Lindenwood finally broke the shutout when Rock Einersen scored a power play goal with help from Mike Lozano and Graham Zagrodney at the 7:23 mark of the second,  but Davenport turned the tables with a short-handed play with 3:59 remaining to take a 3-1 lead into the final period.

Einersen found the back of the net for his second goal of the game with 6:58 left in regulation, set up by Brandon Rumble and Mitch Riese, but the Panthers countered again on the power play just over a minute later.  Moments after the next faceoff, Adam Newkirk and Zagrodney set up senior Peppi Sepila with 5:34 remaining, but the Lions were unable to get the tying goal before time ran out.

Lindenwood outshot Davenport 23-21 and went 1-5 on the power play while allowing one goal in four man-advantage chances for the Panthers.  Cody Karpinski stopped 17 of the 21 shots he faced to take the loss for the Lions between the pipes.

Lindenwood will try for a series split with Davenport Saturday afternoon.  The puck drops at 4 p.m. at the Lindenwood Ice Arena in Wentzville, Mo.  It will be the final regular season home game for the Lions and can be watched via live pay-per-view streaming at STL Sports Productions.
