The Lindenwood Lady Lions women's basketball team jumped out to a first half lead but could not hold on and fell to No. 5 Pittsburg State Gorillas 78-66 in Pittsburg, Kan.
Lindenwood jumped out to an early lead and would hold the lead 32-28 heading into the locker room. The Lady Lions started the second half and pushed their lead up to as many as eight. Lindenwood continued to lead for most of the second half until the Pittsburg State started to chip away.
At the 8:20 mark, the Lady Lions led by six but from that point on it was all Gorillas. Pittsburgh State would close the game on a 29-11 run and hold on for the MIAA win.
Once again, Kassidy Gengebacher led the way for Lindenwood with 19 points.
Vanessa Zailo recorded her first double-double of the year with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Jenny Rocha was second on the team in scoring with 12 points and also dished out a team-high seven assists.
With the loss the Lady Lions fall to 7-4 overall and 1-4 in MIAA play. Up next for Lindenwood is a road game against No. 1 Emporia State.Â
