The Lady Lions started out hot, jumping out to a quick lead, 3-0. Ultimately it wasn't enough to withstand a run from Rochester Institute of Technology, ultimately giving the Lady Lions the 5-4 overtime defeat.
Lindenwood started out on fire, scoring its first goal just under three minutes in. The goal scorer was
Jordyn Constance on an assist from
Shara Jasper and
Katie Nokelby. The Lady Lions then got their first power-play opportunity of the game, which they capitalized on, when
Brooke Peden scored just past the six minute-mark to give Lindenwood a 2-0 lead early. Assisting on the play were
Carrie Atkinson and
Holly Dietzler. The momentum was clearly on Lindenwood's side, to put an exclamation point on the run, Constance took an unassisted goal in, for her second of the period, just 15 seconds after Peden's goal, giving the Lady Lions a commanding 3-0 lead. Lindenwood held the 3-0 advantage for the rest of the period.
RIT came out in the second period similar to how Lindenwood did in the first, scoring two goals just five minutes into the second period. That's where the score would stay, until RIT started the third period fast, sneaking a goal past to tie the score at three. RIT scored a goal with 1:02 left in the game, for its first lead of the game. Lindenwood won the face-off and after a scramble for the puck Jasper came away with it for a Lindenwood goal with 45 seconds to go in the game. The game would stay knotted up at 4, forcing overtime.
Lindenwood came into overtime looking in charge, but RIT scored on turnover just over halfway into the overtime, pushing the Lady Lions record to 7-16-1 and 4-8-1 in CHA play.
The Lady Lions and the RIT Tigers will be back at it tomorrow at 3 P.M. in Wentzville, Mo. to see if they can bounce back from the tough loss tonight.
