The No. 9 Lindenwood Lions wresting team upset No. 6 Nebraska-Kearney 33-6 in a dual in St. Charles on Friday night.
Lindenwood dominated the night winning all but two of the matches. Nebraska-Kearney won one of its two matches in the opening bout of the night. Connor Bolling beat Marco Lamayo 6-1 to give the Lopers an early lead.
That lead lasted one match as
Hunter Haralson of Lindenwood shutout Ryan Baur 6-0 to tie up the score.
Up next was the 141 pound weight class and was the best match of the night.
Kyle Webb of Lindenwood started the match trailing 5-0 heading into the second period. It didn't start of well in the second period either after getting taken down. But things changed quickly though. He scored a reversal, a take down, then pinned his opponent for the win.
After that win the momentum was squarely on the Lions side. Terrell Wilbourn won 11-5 at 149 to give the Lions a 12-3 lead. Kearney stopped the bleeding with a win in the 157-pound match. But that was all the Lopers could do the rest of the night.
The Lions won the next five straight matches for the 33-6 win.
Kyle Jolas won the 165-pound match 14-9 followed by Batchka Zlukhuu who won by injury default.
John McArdle won his match via a pin while
Kenny Breaux and Jacob Borgmeyer won the final two matches.
Lindenwood will take its momentum onto the road at the Missouri Valley Open in Marshall, Mo.
