The Lindenwood men's soccer team and the Fort Hays State Tigers tied 0-0 on Saturday afternoon from Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo.
The Lions and Tigers spent the duration of the first-half displaying terrific defense and ball control. As a result, the teams ended the half deadlocked at zero. For the half, Lindenwood recorded one shot on goal, while Fort Hays was shutout in that category. The defense would continue to impress during a scoreless second-half period, despite Lindenwood out shooting Fort Hays 10-6 during the half. The defense and goaltending persevered during the two overtime periods, sending the Lions and Tigers to a final of 0-0.
Nijaz Muratovic led the Lions in shots with four, while Mauricio Castorino paced the Tigers with four of his own. In net for Lindenwood,
Andrew Hamerlinck finished the match with three saves. It was the third consecutive match for Hamerlinck in which he did not allow a goal against.
In the end, Lindenwood held the edge in shots (17-11) and corner kicks (9-1), while Fort Hays State had the advantage in shots on goal (3-1).
With the tie the Lions move their season record to 6-3-2 and 2-1-1 within the MIAA. Following the tie, Fort Hays moves their record to 8-3-1 and 2-1-1 in conference play. Lindenwood will return to action on Wednesday evening, as they prepare for a non-conference matchup with the Missouri S&T Miners at 7 p.m. from Hunter Stadium.
