Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Toppled by Missouri S&T in Overtime

The Lindenwood men's soccer team fell 1-0 to the Missouri S&T Miners in overtime on Wednesday night from Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo.

For the duration of the first-half, neither the Lions or Miners managed to breakthrough with the all important opening goal. Both squads headed into the halftime intermission deadlocked at zero. Each team sent two shots on goal during the half, with all opportunities being pushed aside. The second-half resulted in the same offensive struggles, sending the game into overtime scoreless. Just 4:40 into the first overtime period, Missouri S&T broke through with the game-winning goal off of a free-kick opportunity by Eduardo Abichabki from 35 yards out. For Abichabki, the goal was his team-leading seventh of the season. The Miner's goal was the first allowed by Lion goalkeeper Andrew Hamerlinck in over 423 consecutive minutes. For Hamerlinck, that streak stretches back to late in the first-half against Truman State on September 29th. Hamerlinck ended the match with three saves. Nijaz Muratovic led the Lions in shots with three, while Abichabki paced the Miners with two of his own.

In the end, Lindenwood held the edge in shots (11-7) and shots on goal (7-4), while Missouri S&T had the advantage in corner kicks (5-3).

With the loss the Lions move their season record to 6-4-2. Following their overtime win, Missouri S&T moves their record to 7-6-0. Lindenwood will return to action on Tuesday, October 20th as they travel to Claremore, Okla. for a non-conference matchup with the Rogers State Hillcats.
