Second-Half Dooms Men’s Soccer in 4-1 Road Defeat

The Lindenwood men's soccer team was defeated by the Rogers State Hillcats 4-1 on Tuesday afternoon from Claremore, Okla.
 
The match between the Lions and Hillcats began scoreless for the opening 24:05, when at that moment Carson Lynn broke the scoring ice for Rogers State with a tap in goal off of a scramble in front of the net. The goal was the first of the season for Lynn, and provided the Hillcats with an early 1-0 advantage. Just 59 seconds later, Andre Hayne drilled a free kick into the back of the net and evened the game, 1-1. For Hayne the goal was his fourth of the season. The two teams would head into halftime knotted up, 1-1.
 
The second-half was dominated on the scoreboard by Rogers State, who scored all three goals during the period. Kevin Kwarteng notched the game-winning goal at the 52:39 mark of the half, with the assist going to Niall Masterson. Masterson would go on to add two goals of his own in the 63rd and 83rd minutes, respectively. The three second-half goals propelled Rogers State to the eventual final of 4-1. In goal for the Lions, Andrew Hamerlinck registered three saves while allowing the four goals against.

In the end, Lindenwood held the edge in shots (19-15), shots on goal (12-7), and corner kicks (7-3).
 
With the loss, the Lions move their season record to 6-5-2. Following the win, Rogers State moves its season record to 9-4-2. Lindenwood will return to action on Friday, October 23rd as they host MIAA opponent, the Southwest Baptist Bearcats from Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo. The Lions defeated the Bearcats on September 26th, 1-0 from Bolivar, Mo.
