Second-Half Goal Propels Lady Lions to Back to Back Wins

A late second-half goal gave Lindenwood the lead for good as the Lady Lions defeated Northeastern State 2-1 Friday night at Hunter Stadium.

The first-half began slowly, with Lindenwood picking up the first couple shots on goal in the first 10 minutes. In the 23rd minute, Becky Roberts drove into the box when she was fouled by a Northeastern State player, allowing for penalty shot to be had by Lindenwood's Danielle Torry. With the clock stopped, the senior drilled the ball into the upper left corner to give the Lady Lions an early 1-0 lead.

The RiverHawks responded early in the second-half Julia Mathis took advantage of a loose ball at the top of the box and drilled one just over the hands of Lindenwood goalkeeper Jordan Gnolfo. As the team exchanged opportunities, each team failed to get its' shots on goal. The RiverHawks had a pair of corner kick chances late in the second-half, but the Lindenwood defense rejected any chance of Northeastern had of scoring.

With less than 12 minutes remaining, Becky Roberts once again drove past the Northeastern defense. This time, however, the sophomore nailed it past Northeastern State's Jordan Woodruff to give the Lady Lions the lead, 2-1, which would be good for back to back wins for the team.

Lindenwood improves to 3-7-3, and have won two in a row. The Lady Lions will look to continue their hot streak this Sunday afternoon at 1:30 when they host Central Oklahoma at Hunter Stadium.
