Field Hockey routs Dowling on Senior Day

The Lindenwood field hockey team hosted its final home contest in a 5-1 avenging victory against Dowling on Sunday morning. On October 12, the Lady Lions fell to the Golden Lions by a score of 4-2.

Before the game started, four seniors – Ashton Lichvar, Claire Salazar, Linda Bonagura, and Victoria Gil – were honored on Senior Day for their hard work, achievements, and time as Lady Lions.

The Golden Lions scored first at the 6:02 mark, but the Lady Lions stormed through the first half with four goals. Lichvar celebrated her big day with her first goal of the season from a long pass from Nicole Johnston at the 20:25 mark. Freshman Savannah Motley followed suit with her first goal of her career to give the Lady Lions a 2-1 lead at the 20:25 mark.

The player of the day went to Victoria Buysschaert as she scored two goals in a row off of passes from Greta Banholzer and Lichvar. Buysschaert has recorded five goals this season.

Twelve minutes into the second half, Karlie Quinn scored her third goal of the season, assisted by Motley to ice the Lady Lions' eighth victory this season.

Gil allowed only goal and saved two off of eight shots faced. This was the fifth game this season that Gil has allowed only one goal or fewer. The Lady Lions held the edge in corner shots, slapping 10 while the Golden Lions had five.

The Lady Lions will hit the road for the final time before the ECAC Tournament. They will face conference rivals Newberry and Limestone on October 24 and 25 respectively.
