Lady Lions Dominate Newberry for Third Straight Win

The Lindenwood field hockey team defeated Newberry for the second time this season by a score of 6-1 Saturday morning. The Lady Lions shut out the Wolves 2-0 in their first meeting on September 11.

In the first half, the Wolves scored off their first attempted shot at the 5:23 mark. The game remained scoreless throughout the first half as the Lady Lions shot six different times including one of the post from Greta Banholzer.

Once the second half started, the floodgates opened for the Lady Lions. Amelia Rodriguez scored off a pass from Karlie Quinn to even the score 1-1 at the 42:25 mark. Just three minutes later, Rodriguez scored again for her second goal of the game and third of the season, assisted by Megan Prasser. At the 49:22 mark, Tara Robben tapped the ball into the net off a long pass from Quinn for her seventh goal of the season, extending the lead to 3-1.

Ashton Lichvar joined the scoring frenzy as she scored her first goal of the season at the 54:58 mark. Chloe Bell scored her sixth goal of the season off an assist from Nicole Johnston to give the Lady Lions a 5-1 lead. With only 1:49 remaining, Graycen Dave capped off the impressive offensive performance for the Lady Lions with her fourth goal of the season.

The Lady Lions' six goals was the second most in their season. All six goals were the most in a half since November 16, 2014 when the Lady Lions defeated Newberry 8-1 in the ECAC tournament.

Freshman goalkeeper, Skylar Starbeck, played in her fifth career game after subbing in for Victoria Gil halfway through the second half.

With this victory, the Lady Lions extend their ECAC record to 5-0 for the first time since joining the conference. They travel to Gaffney, S.C. on Sunday for a rematch with the Saints of Limestone College at 10:00 am. The Lady Lions defeated Limestone 4-3 on September 13 thanks to a last-minute game-winner from Tara Robben. Limestone currently ranks no. 10 in NCAA Division II.
