The Lindenwood women's hockey team was defeated by the Ohio State Buckeyes, 5-1 on Friday night from Lindenwood Ice Arena in Wentzville, Mo.
 
The Lady Lions jumped out to an early 1-0 lead just 1:09 into the game when Britannia Gillanders re-deflected a Rachel Weich shot into the upper left corner of the net for an early 1-0 advantage. For Gillanders, the goal was her second of the season and her second consecutive game with a goal. Midway through the second period while on a power play, Maggie Rothgery evened the score for the Buckeyes, 1-1. The teams played even for the remainder of the period and headed to the locker rooms tied, 1-1.
 
The second period ice tilted heavily in favor of Ohio State, who received four consecutive goals from four different scorers, building themselves a 5-1 lead.
 
In the third period, despite both teams seeing a fair amount of time on their respective power plays, neither team was able to light the lamp.

When talking about the game, Coach Spencer said "I'm happy with the way we didn't quit after that second period. Fortunately, we had the opportunity to try a few different extra-attacker scenarios during the third period and I expect our team to come out tomorrow with an extra jump." 
 
Between the pipes for Lindenwood, Nicole Hensley turned in 27 saves, while allowing five goals. In net for the Buckeyes, Stacy Danczak recorded 31 saves, while allowing one goal.
 
In defeat, Lindenwood moves its season record to 0-3-0. With the victory, the Buckeyes improve their season record to 1-0-0. The Lady Lions will return to action tomorrow night at 7 p.m. as they again prepare to host the Ohio State Buckeyes from Lindenwood Ice Arena.
