Field Hockey Falls to No. 10 Limestone in Overtime Thriller

The Lindenwood field hockey team came close to knocking off No. 10 Limestone for the second time this season, but fell just short with a final score of 2-1 in overtime Sunday morning. The two ECAC titans played on September 13 when the Lady Lions won in the last minute 4-3.

Limestone scored early off a deflection at the 5:39 mark. The Lady Lions shot five times during the first half, but none reached the back of the net. They also recorded two corner shots in the first five minutes.

The scoreless trend continued throughout the second half until the 60:03 mark. Ashton Lichvar, senior, scored her second goal in as many days off a pass from Amelia Rodriguez to tie the game 1-1. The Lady Lions had two corner shots in the last minute of regulation, but could not find the goal.

The Lady Lions forced overtime for the first time this season. However, the Saints scored the game-winning goal off an open goal at the 73:18 mark.

In the statistical categories, the Lady Lions held the edge in most of them. The Lady Lions posted nine corner shots while the Saints had four. The Saints managed six shots with three of them on goal while the Lady Lions had 12 total with seven on goal.

With that loss, the Lady Lions fall to 9-7 entering into the ECAC tournament. They tie with Limestone for the best conference record of 5-1.
