Lions Impress During 5-0 Road Triumph

The Lindenwood men's soccer team shutout the Oakland City Mighty Oaks, 5-0 on Wednesday afternoon from Oakland City, Ind.
 
Lindenwood and Oakland City opened the game by holding one another scoreless into the 39th minute. However at the 38:12 mark, Thomas Hutcheson sent a rebound opportunity into the back of the net and put the Lions ahead 1-0. The goal was the third of the season for Hutcheson. The Lions would carry the 1-0 lead into halftime.
 
The second-half would be tilted heavily in favor of the Lions as they poured in four consecutive goals after the intermission. With 52:48 showing on the clock, Steven Hutchison received a pass from Nikolas Kondic and buried a shot from 28 yards out, extending the lead to 2-0. Lindenwood stuck again in the 70th minute, off of a Kyle Stuhlman header from inside the box, moving the lead to 3-0. Stefan Andric dribbled through the Oakland City defense and scored from 12 yards out in the 75th minute. For Andric, the goal was his third in as many games and his team-leading fourth of the season. Hutchison wrapped up the scoring for the Lions in the 82nd minute, notching his second-goal of the afternoon, providing the Lions with the eventual final score of 5-0. In goal for Lindenwood was Andrew Hamerlinck, who made two saves en route to the shutout victory. For Hamerlinck, the shutout was his third in his last four starts.
 
In the end, the Lions had the advantage in shots (18-6), shots on goal (8-3), and corner kicks (5-3).
 
With the win, the Lions improve their season record to 6-3-1. Lindenwood will return to action on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. when they welcome MIAA conference rival Fort Hays State to Hunter Stadium.
