Lindenwood women's soccer team failed to get into the win column in conference play, while dropping a 3-0 loss in Bolivar, Mo. to MIAA foe Southwest Baptist on Thursday evening.
Southwest Baptist wasted no time in setting the tone early getting a shot and a corner opportunity before putting a ball in the net at the 1:35 mark in the first half. SBU's Elin Hammar took the corner and bent in to the front of the net to find Karla Jamison, who knocked her 10th goal of the season. After the Lady Lions began to calm down and regain composure,
Taylor Wade took her shot when she found a small break in the defense, but it was sent wide. The next 15 minutes was all SBU as they fired six shots, all wide of the net.
The Bearcats kept up the pressure getting a pair of corner opportunities, but failed to capitalize on either chance. The Lady Lions tried to get some momentum going as
Alexis Robbers attempted to even the score, but was rejected by SBU goalkeeper Cheyenne Forshey. Southwest Baptist didn't quit, continuing to get its chances and still hitting the ball wide. Lindenwood's
Jordan Gnolfo turned away the couple that were on net. After receiving another corner kick in the final minute of the first half, Taylor Rohde found the head of Averi Walker, but the midfielder missed it wide of the net. Brooke Herald was there to attempt to clean up the mess, but Gnolfo deflected the shot, but Whitney Snow was right there loft the ball into the back of the net over Gnolfo with just 36 seconds remaining in the half to increase the SBU lead to 2-0.
The second half began similarly to how the first half went. After Lindenwood's
Kat Roe fired a shot that SBU saved, the Bearcats nailed five shots in five minutes, but four of the five being saved or blocked. In the 55th minute, Lindenwood found some momentum with Robbers getting off a shot that deflected out of bounds for a Lady Lions' corner. After the first attempt hit off a defender,
Jamie Rozzell found Robbers on the second chance, which she sent wide. Southwest Baptist proceeded to attempt six shots in the next six minutes, with the final shot of the sequence going in the net for Jamison's second goal of the game.
A couple corners and a shot before the 80th minute was the rest of offensive action Lindenwood saw before each team made a few substitutions in the final ten minutes before the whistled signaled the end of the match, with the final being 3-0 in favor of Southwest Baptist. The Bearcats launched 26 shots, but only 11 found its' on goal, while Lindenwood had five of its eight shots find the net.
The Lady Lions drop to 1-7-3 and head to Joplin, Mo. to face Missouri Southern on Saturday morning. Saturday will mark the end of Lindenwood's four match road trip, and will look to come back home with its first conference victory of the 2015 season.
