Jasper Scores as Women's Hockey Falls to Mercyhurst, 2-1

The Lindenwood Lady Lions were defeated by the Mercyhurst Lakers, 2-1 on Saturday afternoon from the Mercyhurst Ice Center in Erie, Pa. in the final game of a two-game weekend series.
 
Following their 3-2 victory on Friday night, the Lakers again jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on Saturday during the first period. The Mercyhurst goal was scored 1:32 into the game, as Molly Blasen put the Lakers on the board. Mercyhurst would add to their lead once more before the periods end, as Megan Whiddon scored on the power play with 5:47 remaining, giving the Lakers a 2-0 lead heading into the first period intermission.
 
Opening the second period, while on the penalty-kill, the Lady Lions were able to cut their deficit to one goal. Picking up the first shorthanded goal of the season for Lindenwood was Shara Jasper, her conference-leading 11th goal on the year. Assisting on the Lady Lion tally were Sarah Bobrowski and Kaitlyn Davidson, who recorded a point in back to back games. The goal would be their only score of the second period, as the teams headed to the locker rooms with the score 2-1 in favor of Mercyhurst.
 
Lindenwood was unable to breakthrough for the game-tying score during the third period, falling by the final score of 2-1. In net for the Lady Lions, Nicole Hensley turned aside 28 of the 30 shots she faced.  Bobrowski and Jasper each tied for the team-lead in shots with five. For the game, the Lakers outshot the Lady Lions 30-15. On special teams, Lindenwood was 0-2 on the power play while killing off five of the six penalties against. 
 
With the loss the Lady Lions move their season record to 3-7-2 and 1-3-2 within the CHA. Following its win, Mercyhurst improves their season record to 5-5-2 and 5-0-1 in conference play. Lindenwood will return to the ice on Friday at 2 p.m. from Madison, Wis. as they take on the No. 1 ranked Wisconsin Badgers for a non-conference matchup.
