Kassidy Gengenbacher scored 21 points, had six steals, and dished out five assists in the Lindenwood women's basketball record-breaking rout of Robert Morris-Peoria 111-38 on Saturday afternoon in Quincy, Ill.
After trailing 6-2 early on in the first quarter, the Lady Lions used a 10-0 run with contribution from five players to spark a 12-6 lead. The Lady Lions then used an 8-0 run to bring their lead to 24-15 after the first quarter.
Lindenwood didn't slow down in the second. The frame saw more balanced play from the Lady Lions. Gengenbacher scored 12 of her 21, including a pair of three-pointers early in the quarter. Charise Williams and
Hannah Reller also added six points as the Lady Lions outscored Robert Morris-Peoria 32-10 in the second quarter alone to head into halftime with a 56-25 lead.
The Lindenwood bench really got involved in the second half. Shooting nearly 68 percent from the floor as a team, it was hard to find a player who wasn't putting the ball through the hoop. Coming in during the quarter,
Hannah Bland began her rebound-spree at the 2:30 mark. Before the third quarter was over, she had four rebounds, and that was just setting the stage for the final frame.
CeCe Rapp made a few buckets throughout the third for her to finish with 12 points.
Bland continued the rebound streak in the fourth, pulling down another 10 to end the game with 14 boards, and even contributed six points.
Jonna Raflund came in and knocked down seven-of-10 shots from the field to score 14 points, including the final two bucks to give Lindenwood a 111-38 victory.
Thirteen players for Lindenwood scored at least two points in the game, and all but one had at least one rebound. With a balanced attack from everyone on the team, there were a lot of happy faces on the Lady Lions' bench.
"It was great to see everyone score and contribute," head coach
Tony Francis said after the 73-point victory.
Lindnenwood broke the school record for most points in a game that was previously set at 107 points in one game. The team also set a new mark for field goals made in a game with 49 For the game, the Lady Lions shot 62 percent from the field and 71 percent from the charity stripe. In her seven minutes of playing time,
Vanessa Zailo pulled down five boards and had three assists along with scoring a basket. Point guard
Jenny Rocha had five dimes, while
Beth Maenpaa contributed seven points and four rebounds off the bench.
The Lady Lions improve to 3-1 following the win, and will take on host Quincy Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. at the Pepsi Arena in Quincy, Ill.
