The Lindenwood women's hockey team skated to a 3-3 tie against the Robert Morris Colonials on Saturday afternoon in a CHA showdown from Lindenwood Ice Arena in Wentzville, Mo.
The Lady Lions struck first, scoring just 55 seconds into the first period. The goal-scorer for Lindenwood was
Sarah Bobrowski, who notched her fourth goal of the season. Picking up the assists on the score were
Shara Jasper and
Tae Otte, marking the seventh helper of the season for each of them. The Lady Lion lead was short lived, however, as the Colonials evened the score at one just 2:20 later. Jessica Gazzola scored the goal for Robert Morris, and was assisted by Maeve Garvey and Mackenzie Johnston. Both teams would skate even for the remainder of the period and head into the intermission with the score, 1-1.
Early on in the second period
Holly Dietzler tallied her first goal and first point of the season, boosting the Lady Lions to a 2-1 advantage.
Ally Larson and
Britannia Gillanders recorded the assists on the goal, their fifth and third assists on the year, respectively.
Katie Nokelby was whistled for an interference minor at the 15:32 mark of the period, sending the Colonials to the power play. Robert Morris would draw even at two goals aside just 1:01 into the power play, receiving a goal from Johnston with the assists being awarded to Gazzola and Kirsten Welsh. The remainder of the second period was uneventful, sending each team to the locker rooms even, 2-2.
Beginning the third period Bobrowski and the Lady Lions again scored an early goal, this time just 2:09 into the period. For Bobrowski the goal was her second of the afternoon, and fifth of the season. Jasper picked up her second assist of the game, while
Emily Gunderson registered her first helper of the season. The Lady Lions would hold the lead for much of the third period, until the Colonials pulled even at the 17:54 mark, while on the power play. Brittany Howard scored the game-tying goal for Robert Morris, with the assists going to Maggie Lague and Mikaela Lowater. The third period would come to a close with the score 3-3, and the two teams continued on during a five-minute overtime period. The overtime period consisted of few opportunities for either side, and the game reached its final score of 3-3 after the five minutes were up.
Between the pipes for the Lady Lions,
Nicole Hensley picked up 46 saves while allowing the three goals against. Bobrowski led the way for Lindenwood in the shot column, sending 10 pucks on net. For the game, Robert Morris held the edge in shots 49-34. On special teams, the Lady Lions were 0-3 on their power play attempts and successfully killed off three of the five penalties against them.
Following the tie, the Lady Lions move their season record to 4-11-4 and 2-3-4 within the CHA. The Colonials see their record move to 9-6-4 and 3-3-3 in conference play. Lindenwood and Robert Morris will take the ice tomorrow afternoon at 12 p.m. to conclude their two-game set from Lindenwood Ice
