Women’s Hockey Skates to 1-1 Tie at RIT

The Lindenwood women's hockey team and the RIT Tigers played to a 1-1 tie on Saturday afternoon from the Gene Polisseni Center in Rochester, N.Y. in the final matchup of a two-game CHA weekend series.

The teams skated even for the opening period, with neither team breaking through with a goal. During the period, the Lady Lions had two unsuccessful power play opportunities and outshot the Tigers 12-6 during the opening 20 minutes.
 
The second period provided much of the same action as the first period, with both teams remaining scoreless after 40 minutes of play. During the period, the Lindenwood penalty kill unit managed to successfully kill off all three of its attempts. The shot totals at the end of the period were in favor of the Lady Lions 20-16.

Both teams remained deadlocked at zero for the majority of the third period. However, with 4:34 remaining in the game, Tirra Lemoine broke through and gave the Lady Lions a 1-0 lead. For Lemoine, the goal was her second score of the season. Assisting on the goal were Rachel Weich and Ally Larson, their fifth and fourth helpers of the year, respectively. However with just 1:19 remaining in the game and RIT with a 6-4 on-ice advantage, the Tigers tied the game, 1-1. The power play goal was scored by Mallory Rushton, with the assists being credited to Reagan Rust and Jess Paton. The third period ended with both teams even, 1-1 and headed for overtime.

The overtime period did not result in any decisive scoring opportunities, and the teams ended the five-minute period even at 1-1. In goal for the Lady Lions, Nicole Hensley made 28 saves while allowing the one goal against.

Shara Jasper led the way for the Lady Lions, recording five shots on goal. For the game, Lindenwood held the advantage in shots on goal, 31-29. On special teams, the Lady Lion power play unit was 0-5, while the penalty kill unit completed the game killing off four of its five chances.

Following the tie, the Lady Lions move their season record to 4-11-3 and 2-3-3 in conference play. The Tigers see their season record move to 4-15-1 and 0-7-1 within the CHA. Lindenwood will return home to host the Robert Morris Colonials on Dec. 12-13 for a two-game CHA series. The series will mark the final two games for the Lady Lions during the 2015 calendar year.
