Men's Volleyball Earns Come-From-Behind Victory

The Lindenwood men's volleyball team picked a come-from-behind victory on Friday night at Hyland Arena. The Lions trailed 2-1 before winning the final two sets in a 23-25, 25-16, 22-25, 25-22, and 15-11 win.

The Lions had five players in double-figure kills in the match, but got help from a fifth source in the fifth set. Thomas Cruz entered the match for an injured player in the third set, and became an unlikely hero in the final game. He had all three of his kills in that set, and also had two block assists in the fifth set. With Lindenwood clinging to an 11-10 lead, Cruz had a kill to put Lindenwood up 12-10, and then another to give the team a 14-10 advantage. After Quincy scored once to get within three, Cruz and Connor Metcalfe teamed up for a block on match point.

Lindenwood finished the match with a .301 hitting percentage, compared to a .195 mark for Quincy. The Lions had 14 more kills, three more digs, and two extra blocks and service aces.

Jake Duckworth and Kyle Overby both finished with 15 kills, followed by Colin Hackworth with 14 and Logan Jarus with 10. Jarus hit .625 for the match, and Duckworth had a .370 hitting percentage. Duckworth also had four service aces, two block assists, and a team-high 15 digs. Hackworth finished with three service aces and was one dig shy of a double-double.

Connor Metcalfe had an assist/dig double-double with 57 assists and 10 digs. Mason Ohta also had double-figure digs with 10. Overby and Cruz each had a team-high three blocks.

Lindenwood improves to 4-4 on the year and 2-3 in MIVA play. The Lions go on the road in two weeks against the top two teams in NCAA Division I-II, Lewis and Loyola-Chicago.
