Lindenwood's men's lacrosse team opened the season with a victory over non-conference opponent Shorter University in Rome, Ga. The team relied on three goal performances from
Josh Coons and
David Corazalla to help them get the victory.
Lindenwood struck first when
Brandon Lenz scored the first goal of the Lindenwood season. The Lions scored two more goals in the period, the second by
Graeme Hossack and the third
Kevin Eskridge, but went into the first break tied 3-3.
The second quarter was dominated by the Eskridge brothers, when Connor scored the first two goals unassisted then Kevin scored the third goal on an assist from Connor. Coons joined the Eskridge scoring barrage with a goal of his own on an assist from
Kevin Eskridge, putting the Lions up 7-5 going into the third quarter.
Shorter came out strong in the third, holding Lindenwood scoreless in the third, while scoring three of its own goals, putting Lindenwood down 8-7 at the end of the third. Corazalla started out the fourth strong, scoring the first goal of the period. Coons scored his second goal of the day to put Lindenwood back on top, followed by a clutch goal by
Joe Roy to put Lindenwood up 10-8. Coons scored one more time and Corazalla scored his second and third goal of the period to seal a Lindenwood victory.
Lindenwood's victory puts them at an undefeated 1-0. The Lions next game will take place in St. Charles, Mo. when Fontbonne University comes on February 27th for Lindenwood's first home game of the season.
