The Lindenwood softball team kicked off its 2015 season on Friday in Clearwater, Fla. The opening day of the season did not go the way the Lady Lions wanted. Lindenwood lost to Florida Tech 6-4 and then lost to No. 12 Tampa 6-0.
Things started quickly for Florida Tech with four runs in the top of the first inning. Florida Tech added to the lead in fifth with two more runs. The Lady Lions tried to get back into the game with a run in the fifth and three more in the sixth but it was too little too late as Lindenwood fell 6-4.
The Lady Lions defense committed four errors in the loss.
Alexis Theis led Lindenwood at the plate going two-for-three with three RBIs and a home run.
Alexandra Newcomb also chipped in with two hits and a RBI.
Rachel Overton made her Lindenwood debut in the circle. She went five innings and gave up four earned runs while striking out one.
The second game of the day started quickly for the Lady Lions opponent again. Tampa scored a run in the bottom of the first then three more in the bottom of the third. Tampa only needed one run as the Lady Lions could not muster a run. The Lindenwood offense had just three hits in the game.
The Lady Lions start the season with an overall record of 0-2. Lindenwood will be right back in action on Saturday afternoon with two more games.
