Softball Team Wins in Walk-off Fashion

The Lindenwood softball team split a doubleheader against the William Jewell Cardinals on Tuesday afternoon in St. Charles. William Jewell scored early and often in game one and won the game 13-1. The Lady Lions staged a furious comeback in game two and won 5-4.

The first game of the day was all William Jewell. The Cardinals score all 13 of their runs in the first three innings. The visitors pounded out 14 hits while the Lady Lions had just six.

Game two of the day was much more exciting than the first. William Jewell started the scoring off in the second inning scoring a single tally. Lindenwood answered back quickly with a run of its own in the bottom half of the inning.

The Cardinals then extended their lead with two runs in the third and another in the fifth to take a 4-1 lead. LIndenwood had multiple chances late in the contest to inch its way back into the game but couldn't get the big hit.

Well, that changed in the bottom of the seventh inning. The frame started with Mallor Eitel singling then advanced to second on an error. Maddie Huot then drove her in with an RBI single into right.

Maria Tippit followed that up with a bloop single into the left to put runners at second and third. Then Alexis Theis would come off the bench and hit a double off the wall in right centerfield to score a run and put the winning run at second base. Another pinch hitter was sent to the plate and that was senior Ally Newcomb. She drove the second pitch she saw into right field scoring both runs and snapping the Lady Lions nine-game losing skid.

Newcomb led the Lady Lions in both games with three hits and two RBIs. Huot also had a good day at the plate with three hits in six at bats.

Kendall Ryndak pitched in both games but was the winner in game two. She struck out 14 combined in both games.

The Lady Lions now run their record to 4-20 overall. Lindenwood will be back in action Wednesday afternoon against Fontbonne.
