The No. 3 ranked Lindenwood women's lacrosse team came away with a close home victory over the No. 6 ranked Florida Southern College Mocs, 9-8. The game was tied 8-8 until
Jordyn Constance scored her first goal of the game with 6.4 seconds remaining to give the Lady Lions their sixth consecutive victory.
Despite Florida Southern scoring the first goal of the game, Lindenwood took control of the first half. Lindenwood would score the next four goals, within seven minutes of each other to put Lindenwood up 4-1. After a Florida Southern goal, Lindenwood snuck two more in before half to give the Lady Lions a 6-2 lead going into halftime. At halftime, Lindenwood carried a commanding 18-8 shot advantage.
In the second half, Florida Southern showcased why they're the No. 6 ranked team in the country. Florida Southern scored five goals to Lindenwood's one, to tie the game at 7-7 with 2 minutes remaining.
Amanda Schimpke took an unassisted goal, for her second of the game to give Lindenwood an 8-7 lead. Florida Southern answered back with a goal of its own with 47 seconds remaining to tie the game at 8-8. After a big draw control victory by
Sophie Buelow, Lindenwood waited for its opportunity to take a good shot. That shot came at the hands of Constance, who attacked and found the net with 6.4 seconds remaining. Constance won the draw control to seal a sixth consecutive Lady Lions victory.
For the Lady Lions,
Lindsey Palmer, Buelow, Schimpke, and Menchalla all had two goals apiece in the game. For Menchalla, those were her 23rd and 24th goals of the season. Recent RMAC defensive player of the week,
Rachel Ortell had another important eight saves, giving her a 5-0 record on the season. Both teams were successful in the majority of their clearing attempts, Lindenwood went 23-24, while Florida Southern went 22-26.
Lindenwood's record now improves to 6-0. The Lady Lions will get back to RMAC play, when they host Adams State University Sunday March 22nd in Hunter Stadium.
