Lindenwood's men's and women's tennis teams hosted the visiting McKendree University on Monday. The women would go on to win 6-3, while the men would lose by the same margin.
The women relied on singles victories from
Alexandra Medvedeva,
Diana Castro,
Daria Ivanova, and
Clara Piccamiglio to put them up 4-2 before doubles. Ivanova beat her opponent 7-6, 7-5, while Piccamiglio won 6-4, 7-6. Piccamiglio teamed with
Gloria Marras to beat McKendree's pair 8-5. Ivnanova and
Shreeja Karki worked together to seal a Lady Lion victory at 6-3.
For the men's team, Naoful El Idrissi was the first Lion to get a victory, getting a 6-0, 2-6, 6-3 victory. Yoshi Ysa followed El Idrissi with a win of his own, going 6-2, 6-0.
Filip Bogic carried this momentum into his match, winning the first set 6-0, before falling in the final two sets. Lindenwood was down 4-2 going into doubles and appeared to have a chance after
Anvar Akhmetov and
Slobodan Bavrlic won the first doubles match, 9-7. Bogic and El Idrissi fell 8-6 putting the match out of reach.
The men's loss moves their record to 3-5, while the women's win moves them to 3-4. After Tuesday's match Missouri Baptist was cancelled, Lindenwood will play its next matches against Lewis and Clark Community College in an exhibition match on March 25th.
