Men's Volleyball Earns MIVA Sweep Over Grand Canyon

The Lindenwood men's volleyball team finished off a two-match sweep over Grand Canyon on Saturday night in Phoenix, Ariz. The Lions had a come-from-behind victory by scores of 23-25, 25-20, 20-25, 25-20, and 16-14.

In the deciding fifth set, Lindenwood trailed early by a 5-2 margin, but it went on a 5-0 run to take the lead. Kyle Overby had a kill in that span, and the Lopes had three attack errors. Grand Canyon came right back though with four straight points to go up 9-7. The back-and-forth fifth set saw five ties at every point from 10 to 14. Lindenwood finally went ahead for good at 15-14 on another Overby kill, and Colin Hackworth and Logan Jarus combined on a block on match point to give the Lions the win.

Lindenwood finished with three more kills in the match, but had a lower hitting percentage after the Lopes had ten more blocks. The Lions had seven more digs and one service ace.

The trio of Hackworth, Overby, and Jake Duckworth had 47 of the team's 58 kills. Hackworth finished with 19, Overby had 15, and Duckworth collected 13. Hackworth had team-highs with five service aces and 25 points. Roman Seghezzi had a double-double with 47 assists and 10 digs, and Ryan Vorderer had a team-high 14 digs. Thomas Cruz paced the squad with four blocks.

Lindenwood improves to 10-8 on the season and 5-6 in MIVA play. The Lions begin a four-match homestand this Wednesday against McKendree.
