The Lindenwood men's volleyball team needed five sets to survive a challenge from McKendree on Wednesday night at Hyland Arena. The Lions prevailed by scores of 25-20, 25-27, 22-25, 25-20, and 15-13.
Colin Hackworth nearly single-handily carried the Lions to the victory. He had 28 kills and 31.5 points in the contest, both school records since the program moved to the NCAA level. Hackworth had 52 percent of the team's kills and also recorded five blocks, including two solo blocks.
Hackworth had five points in the deciding fifth set, including three late in the game. Lindenwood trailed 10-9 before going on a 3-0 run. Hackworth had a kill in the middle of that run which put the Lions ahead for good. The teams traded sideouts after that, will Hackworth recorded kills for the final two Lindenwood points.
Other notable stats on the night were
Jake Duckworth with 10 kills,
Roman Seghezzi with team-highs of 46 assists and 11 digs, and
Thomas Cruz and
Kyle Overby both recording six blocks.
Lindenwood improves to 11-8 overall and 6-6 in MIVA action. The Lions have another home match on Friday night when they welcome No. 11 Ohio State to Hyland Arena for a 7 p.m. contest.
