Baseball Falls to Undefeated Missouri Southern on Sunday

The Lindenwood baseball team lost both games on Sunday to Missouri Southern by scores of 4-3 and 8-1 respectively.

Game one was a defensive game that featured one big important inning and late-game excitement.  Missouri Southern jumped on the board in the third inning with four runs that were scored off back-to-back extra base hits.  Austin Klein however threw four shutout innings and struck out five Missouri Southern batters to keep the Lindenwood Lions within reach.

Lindenwood cut the lead in half in the top of the sixth when Drew Quinones hit a two-out single through the right side to drive in Nathan Prindle and Wes Degener.  The Lions had one final chance in the seventh inning and Ryan Light lead off with a single up the middle.  Shawn Hagarty reached on a fielder's choice and Mike Wilson laid down a sacrifice bunt to put both runners in scoring position.  Degener drove in Light on a sacrifice fly to left field to pull within one, but the Lions were unable to complete the comeback and fell 4-3.

Game two was a tough one for Lindenwood as they fell behind 3-0 in the first inning.  The Lions only run came in the second inning when Light stole home.  Lindenwood surrendered eight runs on 14 hits including two home runs and three fielding errors.

After the double-header loss Lindenwood falls to 5-9 on the year and 0-3 in the MIAA.  The Lions will complete the four-game series on Monday starting at 1 p.m.
