The Lindenwood softball team snapped a nine-game losing streak after splitting with the Maryville Saints in St. Charles. The Saints won game one 10-0 and then the Lady Lions won game two 7-6.
Game one started off slow for the Lindenwood defense. The Lions committed three errors in the first inning which allowed the Saints to score three runs. Maryville added to its lead with single tallies in the third and the fifth, then exploded for five runs in the sixth which ended the contest.
Lindenwood was outhit by the Saints 11-7 and the Lions committed four errors on defense.
Brooklyn Sisk and
Courtney Kitson led the way for the Lions with two hits each.
The second game of the day started much better for the Lions. Lindenwood scored two runs on three hits capped off by an
Alexis Theis double off the centerfield wall.
But unfortunately for the Lady Lions, Maryville answered right back the next half inning. The Saints scored five runs on four hits. It was now the Lady Lions turn to respond and they did after
Alexandra Newcomb had a two-out, two-run single to get Lindenwood within one after two.
Then in the fifth inning the Lady Lions would tie the score up with an RBI single by
Hannah Braun. Then in the sixth inning Lindenwood took the lead after two big two out hits.
Maryville was able to bring across one run in the top of the seventh but
Morgan Colvis came in and shut down the Saints to earn her second save of the season.
Mallory Eitel and Theis led the way with three hits apiece. Newcomb and Theis both drove in a pair of runs in the win.
After the split the Lady Lions run their record to 6-30 on the season. Lindenwood will be back to MIAA play on Friday afternoon against Pittsburg State.
