Lindenwood's men's lacrosse team continued to have its most successful season since joining the NCAA by beating the Colorado Mesa Mavericks 15-10. Leading the charge offensively for the Lions was
Kevin Eskridge, who scored three goals on four shots. Lindenwood had four others score two goals each, including the back-to-back-to-back ECAC Specialist of the Week award winner,
Graeme Hossack, who also added eight groundballs.
Lindenwood came out strong, scoring the first three goals, to put Lindenwood up 3-0 with 10:04 to go in the first quarter. Following a Maverick's goal,
David Corazalla scored his first goal of the game to put Lindenwood up 4-1. The Lions allowed one more goal before the end of the first quarter, leaving the score at 4-2 going into the second quarter.
Team leading scorer
Josh Coons scored his only goal of the game to open up the second quarter. Colorado Mesa wouldn't go away though, scoring back-to-back goals to shrink the Lion's lead to 5-4.
Brandon Lenz scored a goal for Lindenwood, but the Mavericks answered right back. Lindenwood got consecutive goals from
Jon George and
Kevin Eskridge to give the Lions some breathing room at 8-5. Both teams would get another goal before halftime, leaving the score at 9-6.
Colorado Mesa came out in the second half firing, scoring two consecutive goals to shrink the Lion lead to 9-8.
McNein Hewitt and Eskridge scored consecutive goals to put Lindenwood back to a comfortable lead at 11-8. After a goal exchange by both teams, the score was 12-9 going into the fourth.
Hewitt opened up the fourth quarter with a goal to put Lindenwood up 13-9. After allowing a Colorado Mesa goal, Lindenwood slammed the door shut with goals by George and Corazalla to seal a 15-10 Lion victory.
Both teams took 35 total shots, but Lindenwood had 30 of those on goal, compared to just 18 by Colorado Mesa.
Tyler Schermann continues to dominate face-offs, winning 18 of the 27 he was involved in. The Lions outhustled the Mavericks, bringing in 25 ground balls compared to Colorado Mesa's 17.
The non-conference win improves Lindenwood's record to 10-1. The Lions are on their second five-game winning-streak of the season. Lindenwood is currently tied for second in the ECAC standings with Lake Erie College. Coming up next for the Lions is a visit to North Canton, Ohio to play Walsh University on April 16th at 4:00 p.m.
