Women's Lacrosse Wins In Double Overtime

The No. 3 Lindenwood women's lacrosse team needed overtime on Sunday afternoon in Misenheimer, N.C., but it was able to survive another tough battle against Pfeiffer by a 13-12 score.

Last year, Lindenwood and Pfeiffer played a one-goal contest with Pfeiffer escaping with a 7-6 win. Sunday's contest also went down to the wire, with the Lady Lions winning this time.

The Lady Lions led for much of the contest, and had a 12-10 lead after Sophie Buelow scored with 10:53 remaining. Lindenwood was held scoreless for the rest of regulation, and Pfeiffer scored twice to force overtime, including the final goal with seven seconds remaining.

In the first overtime period, both teams turned the ball over the first time they had possession. Lindenwood took over shots in the final 1:03, but three went wide and one was save by the Pfeiffer goal. In the second overtime, Lindenwood won the draw and held the ball until the clock was under 30 seconds. Jordyn Constance then got open and scored the game-winner. The Lady Lions won the draw after that goal but turned it over. Pfeiffer cleared the ball but Molly Beckham caused a turnover in the final second to seal the win.

Amanda Schimpke and Melissa Menchella both scored three goals, and Allison Hurley led the team with two assists. Jamie Miller had a team-high three groundballs and Constance had six draw controls. Four players had two caused turnovers, including goalie Rachel Ortell, and Ortell also made nine saves in the game.

Lindenwood improves to 12-1 on the season. The Lady Lions face Queens on Monday evening in Charlotte, N.C.
