The Lindenwood baseball team scored eight runs in the top of the ninth to defeat Northwest Missouri State 16-9 on Thursday afternoon in Maryville, Mo.
The Lions jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first including a two-run home run by
Wade Rothermich and a solo blast by
Ryan Light. The Bearcats immediately responded and scored four runs in the bottom of the inning with all runs being unearned due to two costly errors. Northwest Missouri State added another run in the bottom of the third to extend its lead to 5-3.
Mike Ehrhard started a much needed rally with a double in the top of the fourth.Â
Mike Wilson singled to move Ehrhard to third and Wilson stole second which forced a throwing error by the catcher and allowed Ehrhard to score.Â
Wes Degener homered to right field to put the Lions back on top 6-5 after the fourth. The Lions extended their lead in the sixth with two runs on a groundout and a base hit respectively.
Northwest Missouri State put up three runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 8-8. Both teams were held scoreless in the seventh and eighth innings which made for quite the finish at Bearcat Field. Lindenwood scored eight runs on seven singles and a three-run home run by
Nathan Prindle to put the Lions up 16-8. The Lions held the Bearcats to just one run in the bottom of the inning and held on for the 16-9 victory.
Connor Law tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings to earn his second victory of the season. The Lions are up to 35 homeruns as a team including nine from Prindle and seven from Rothermich.
Lindenwood improves to 16-16 on the year and 8-9 in the MIAA. The Lions continue the series on Saturday for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
