The Lindenwood softball team earned its first doubleheader sweep of the season after beating the Illinois-Springfield Prairie Stars on Wednesday night in St. Charles. The Lady Lions won the first game of the night 5-4 in 10 innings and then won game two 3-1.
The first game of the day started with the visitors getting on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning. Lindenwood answered in the fourth inning with a pair of runs after back-to-back RBI singles by
Courtney Kitson and Maddie Bohr.
The Prairie Stars answered quickly with the tying run in the top of the fifth. The game would stayed tied through the seventh inning and it headed into extra innings. Illinois-Springfield struck first in extras with a run in the top of the eighth but the Lions answered right back to tie the game.
Neither team scored in the ninth inning and the game headed into the 10
th. The visitors scored a single tally in the top half of the inning and then it was Lindenwood's turn.
Maddison Huot would come up with the first of two big hits in the inning, driving in the tying run. After a single by
Brooklyn Sisk the Lady Lions would have the winning run at third. Sydney Seaubaugh would then beat out a groundball to short and the winning run came across.
Kendall Ryndak started and pitched 10 innings, striking out 11 and earning her sixth win of the season. Huot led the offense with three hits while Seabaugh chipped in with two.
After going 10 innings in game one, the second game only last five after rain shortened the contest. Lindenwood struck first in the bottom of the first with a single tally. The Lady Lions then added to it with runs in the third and the fourth. With the Prairie Stars hitting in the sixth inning the game was called due to rain and lightning.
The sweep for Lindenwood runs the team's record to 10-32 overall. The Lady Lions will be back in action on Friday at Lincoln.
