Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lacrosse Wins RMAC Tournament

The No. 3 Lindenwood women's lacrosse team earned another trophy on Sunday afternoon in Denver, Colo., this time winning the RMAC Tournament Championship. The Lady Lions, who also won the RMAC Regular Season Championship, earned the tournament title with an 18-8 win over No. 17 Regis.

Lindenwood trailed 3-1 after 11 minutes of play, but it would take over the game after that point. The Lady Lions ended the first half on an 8-1 run. The Lady Lions showed their depth during that stretch, as six different players scored goals and eight had points.

In the second half, the Rangers could never get closer than four goals. Lindenwood eventually pulled away with a 4-0 run that started midway through the period.

Lindenwood's defense was the story of the game as it nearly completely shut down the RMAC Offensive Player of the Year, Emily Behr. Behr managed just one goal and two shots in the game. In all, the Lady Lions allowed just 19 shots and 15 shots on goal. Goalie Rachel Ortell made seven saves, and Bailey Knapton and Molly Beckham both had two caused turnovers and two groundballs.

Offensively, the Lady Lions were led by Melissa Menchella who had a team-high four goals and five points. Morgan Judd added three goals and an assist, followed by Sophie Buelow and Amanda Schimpke with two goals. Lindsey Palmer recorded two assists to lead the team. A total of 11 different Lindenwood players had a goal.

Menchella was named MVP of the RMAC All-Tournament team. Also on the all-tournament team from Lindenwood were Ortell, Knapton, Buelow, Judd, and Beckham.

Lindenwood improves to 18-1 on the season. The Lady Lions will host a first-round NCAA Tournament game next Saturday at 12 p.m. at Hunter Stadium.
