Women's Volleyball Splits Opening Day of Lindenwood Invitational

The Lindenwood women's volleyball team played host to the 2015 Lindenwood Invitational at Hyland Arena in St. Charles, Mo.  The Lady Lions fell to Arkansas-Fort Smith 3-1 in the opening match, but closed out the night with a 3-1 victory over Harding.

The Lady Lions opened their weekend with a match against defending Heartland Conference Champion, Arkansas-Fort Smith, who also made it to the NCAA Division II Final Four last season.  Lindenwood carried its momentum from a week ago and pounded Arkansas-Fort Smith 25-11 in the first set.  In set two the Lady Lions fell behind 10-5 at one point and 19-15 later one, but kept fighting.  Lindenwood went back-and-forth with Arkansas-Fort Smith resulting in a devastating 29-27 defeat.

The Lady Lions ran out of gas and dropped set three 25-14 and fell 25-16 in the fourth frame.  Bailey Dvorak, Kayla Guyot, and Shannon Doyle combined for 30 kills while Sarah-Jane Pavlik contributed 32 assists in the four-set match with Arkansas-Fort Smith.

Lindenwood rebounded in the nightcap by winning sets one and two, 25-18 and 25-21 respectively.  The Lady Lions dropped set three, but turned out the lights and strolled to a 25-14 victory.  Guyot had a monster game with 13 kills followed by Dvorak and Shannon Doyle with 12 kills each.  Pavlik placed the ball with pinpoint accuracy as she tallied 45 assists in the four-set match.

Lindenwood moves to 5-1 on the year and will complete the two-day tournament on Saturday.  The Lady Lions will open the day with a 9:30 a.m. start time against Northwood and will finish the tournament against Missouri-St. Louis starting at 3:30 p.m. at Hyland arena in St. Charles, Mo.
