Football Team Returns To Hunter Stadium On Saturday Night

Storylines
- The Lindenwood football team returns to Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo. this Saturday night for a 6 p.m. game against the Fort Hays State Tigers. The game will be a part of Family Day festivities on the Lindenwood campus.
 
- Lindenwood is 1-1 on the season and in the MIAA, and it is 1-0 on its home field. The Lions opened the season with a 20-14 win over Washburn, before falling 56-28 last week to No. 5 Pittsburg State.
 
- Fort Hays State is undefeated on the season with a 2-0 record overall and in MIAA play. The Tigers have two come-from-behind wins by scores of 30-29 against Central Oklahoma and 27-13 versus Northeastern State.
 
- Fort Hays State has a narrow 2-1 advantage in the all-time series between the two teams. Lindenwood won the inaugural meeting in 2012 by a 20-17 score, but the Tigers have won the last two games. Fort Hays State won the only previous game in St. Charles by a 31-17 score in 2013, and it won last year's contest by a 20-7 margin.
 
- The turnover battle has been the difference in all three previous games between the Lions and Tigers. Lindenwood had a +4 turnover margin in its 2012 victory, while Fort Hays State had a +3 turnover margin in both of its wins in 2013 and 2014.
 
- With a win, Lindenwood will improve to 2-0 this season on its home field. It would mark the seventh time over the last nine years that the Lions have won their first two home games of the season.
 
- One of the biggest areas of improvement in 2015 has been Lindenwood's rushing offense. The Lions are averaging 57.9 yards more on the ground than last season, and they are averaging nearly a yard more per rush.
 
- The Lindenwood defense will have its hands full with one of the top rushing teams in NCAA Division II. Fort Hays State leads the MIAA and is sixth in the nation with 333.0 rushing yards a game. The Lions defense is on pace to improve its run defense for the third straight year. The team is allowing 12.8 fewer rushing yards a game, and 0.2 rushing yards per attempt than the 2014 season.
 
Lions Offense
- Lindenwood is tied for sixth in the MIAA in scoring offense (24.0), and it is eighth in total offense (382.5).
 
- Lindenwood's running game has been led by the duo of running backs Calen Campbell and Lavorrie Johnson. They have combined for 103.0 rushing yards a game and three rushing touchdowns. Campbell is averaging 6.2 rushing yards an attempt, while Johnson is averaging 4.5 yards a carry.
 
- Quarterback Jesse Scroggins has spread the ball out among his four starting receivers over the first two games. Greg Coble, Jaron Alexander, Tre' Roby, and DeSean Warren each have between six and 10 receptions. Coble leads with 10 receptions, and Roby has a team-high 128 receiving yards.
 
- Through the first seven quarters this season, the Lindenwood offense turned the ball over just one time.
 
Lions Defense
- Lindenwood is 11th in the MIAA in scoring defense (35.0), and is seventh in total defense (411.0).
 
- Connor Harris is second in NCAA Division II with 32 total tackles, and is third with 16.0 tackles per game. He has now recorded double-figure tackles in seven straight games, and he has 19 career double-figure tackle games.
 
- Connor Harris' 17 tackles against Pittsburg State tied for the most in the MIAA for a single game in 2015, and it is tied for the 10th-highest total in NCAA Division II for this season.
 
- Steven Pace is just seven tackles away from recording his 100th career stop.
- Ten different Lions have recorded a tackle for loss this season, and four have collected sacks. Ben Jackson and Skyler Suggs leads the team with 2.0 tackles for loss, and Suggs has a team-high 2.0 sacks.
 
Lions Special Teams
- Tre' Roby leads the MIAA and is eighth in NCAA Division II in punt returns. He has returned three punts for 54 yards, an average of 18 yards per return. Roby currently ranks seventh in the MIAA with 131 all-purpose yards a game, two spots ahead of teammate Lavorrie Johnson who is averaging 119 all-purpose yards a contest.
 
- Lindenwood recovered an onside kick last week against Pittsburg State. After not recovering an onside kick from 2009-2013, the Lions now have two successful onside kicks over their last six contests.
 
Misc. Notes
- Lindenwood goes on the road on Sept. 26 to face Missouri Western at 2 p.m. The Lions will be playing in St. Joseph, Mo. for the first time in program history.
 
About Fort Hays State
- Fort Hays State has trailed at halftime in both games this season, but has outscored its opponents 37-9 in the second halves to move to 2-0 on the year.
 
- Shaquille Cooper is fourth in NCAA Division II with 213.0 rushing yards a game, and he is second with 240 all-purpose yards a contest.
 
- Brock Long, DeAndre James, and Alex Schmidtberger all average at least 12.0 tackles per game. Six different Tiger defenders have recorded a turnover on the season.
