Game Recap: Field Hockey (Discontinued) |

Field Hockey Loses Close Game at Mercyhurst

The Lady Lions field hockey team came nearly close to taking Mercyhurst into overtime in Erie, Pa., but fell just short 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.

The Lakers jumped on top early with a goal over Victoria Gil's head at the 2:22 mark followed by another goal just before the first half ended. Gil defended perfectly in the second half, letting off no goals. The Lady Lions made a last minute push as Nicole Johnston scored her first goal of the season to cut the lead to 2-1. At the 69:35 mark, Tara Robben almost tied the game with a shot, but the Lakers iced the game after the miss.

Both teams recorded 16 shots each with nine of them on goal for the Lady Lions. Gil saved nine on 15 shots faced, totaling up to 47 saves on the season. The Lady Lions had 15 opportunities on corner shots while the Lakers posted ten.

The Lady Lions return to Mercyhurst to take on Slippery Rock in a neutral-site game Sunday at 10:00 am.
