Game Recap: Field Hockey (Discontinued) |

Field Hockey Barely Falls to Slippery Rock

The Lady Lions field hockey team fought hard Sunday morning at Erie, Pa., but Slippery Rock reeled in a late goal to barely win 2-1.

Defense was the theme of the game for both squads as Rock landed on the scoreboard with only 4:26 remaining in the first half. Victoria Gil recorded four saves including two at the 2:12 and 2:45 marks during the first half. Tara Robben nearly tied the game up at the 34:31 mark, but Rock's goalie managed to get the save.

Both teams continued to play near-perfect defense in the second half until Nicole Johnston took a pass from Amelia Rodriguez and tied the game with her second goal of the season at the 61:54 mark to give the Lady Lions a chance to win a tightly contested game. Rock, however, responded with a goal off a rebound at the 64:16 mark to take the lead 2-1.

The Lady Lions defense, who have allowed only seven goals in the last five games, held Rock to one goal each half and stopped them on nine shots with seven on goal. Johnston's goal marked her second in the last two games in which both occurred during late in second halves. The Lady Lions continue to earn corner shots, recording 11 while Rock had two.

The Lady Lions will take a two week break before they hit the road again to Louisville, Ky. On October 3rd. They will take on conference rival Bellarmine at noon.
