Lady Lions Volleyball Struggles Against UMSL

The Lindenwood women's volleyball team lost 3-1 to local opponent Missouri-St. Louis on Tuesday evening in St. Louis, Mo.

The Lady Lions entered the evening looking to get back at the Tritons.  Missouri-St. Louis defeated the Lady Lions 3-1 in a tough match earlier in the season.  Unfortunately, the Lady Lions fell by the same 3-1 result by scores of 20-25, 27-25, 25-27, and 19-25 respectively.

Missouri-St. Louis took an early lead and held it until about halfway through the first set as Lindenwood took a 15-13 lead.  The Lady Lions were then outscored 10-1 to fall behind 23-16 and could not climb out of the hole as the Tritons took set one by a final of 25-20.

In set two the Lady Lions quickly fell behind 3-0 before tying finding themselves down again 10-5.  Lindenwood fought back to tie the game at 15-15 and then went on a run to make it 21-17.  The Lady Lions allowed the Tritons to hang around before cutting the cord and taking set two by a 27-25 final.  Bailey Dvorak led the squad with six kills in the second set followed by Kayla Guyot with five.

Lindenwood came out in set three with a mission and jumped out to an impressive start.  The Lady Lions held a 17-9 lead, but again let the Tritons stay in the game.  This set, however, Missouri-St. Louis made the Lady Lions pay for not stepping on the gas and the Tritons defeated Lindenwood 27-25 in the third set.

The Lady Lions could not gain the upper hand in set four and fell 25-19 to finalize the night.  Dvorak finished her night with 17 kills and Alex Dahlstrom delivered 15 kills.  Guyot posted a .417 hitting percentage and 11 kills.

Lindenwood falls to 8-4 on the season after the road loss.  The Lady Lions return home on Friday night to host No. 16 Nebraska at Kearney for the first home MIAA match this year at Hyland Arena in St. Charles, Mo. for a 7 p.m. start time.
