On the campus of Missouri S&T in Rolla, Mo. the Lindenwood women's soccer team kicked off its regular season with a 1-0 win on Thursday, September 3.
The Lady Lions came out firing in the first half, launching 10 shots with four being on frame. Just inside the 24th minute,
Kelsey Becker found an opening in Missouri S&T's box which resulted in
Kristin Brewer knocking in the first goal of the season to give Lindenwood an early 1-0 lead. The Lady Lions didn't settle as they kept attacking, but the Lady Miners' goalie Carrie Levy knocked away all other chances before the first half whistle blew.
Both teams received at least one yellow card early in the second half, as each were fighting for a better position to get a good scoring chance as the score stood still at 1-0 in the 64th minute.
Shots, in total, were down in the second half as the game became stronger on the defensive end for both teams. Only two corner kicks were surrendered, with one conceited by each team. Lindenwood only managed a pair of shots in the second half, neither on goal. Lindenwood freshman goalie
Zoe Wetzel knocked away two shots on frame, as Missouri S&T shot seven more balls missing the net.
With the Lady Lions improving to 1-0-0 after winning the first game of the season, they will travel to Springfield, Mo. to battle Drury University this Saturday, September 5, at 7:30 p.m.
