The Lindenwood women's soccer team used strong pressure near the end of the match to score twice and force a 2-2 tie on the road against Drury on Saturday in Springfield, Mo.
Trying to ride the momentum of an intense game reliant on a staunch defense, the Lady Lions didn't get off to a great start in the first 25 minutes at Drury. The Lady Panthers' Kerri Morris began the scoring in the 19th minute when she snuck one past Lindenwood's goalkeeper
Zoe Wetzel. Without taking a breath, defender Ciara O'Brien knocked another one to the back of the net to quickly bring the score to 2-0 in favor of Drury.
The second half was a stalemate until the 82nd minute when Lindenwood was rewarded with an indirect free kick.
Alexis Robbers took the shot after a pass from
Becky Roberts, and put the Lady Lions within one score with nine minutes to play. Then, with just 14 seconds left,
Miranda Huebner found the foot of
Shannon Stewart to tie the game at 2-2 to force overtime.
Defense prevailed, once again, in both overtime periods with each team managing minimum chances to end the game with a final score of 2-2.
The Lady Lions go to 1-0-1 on the season, and host Missouri-St. Louis on Tuesday in the team's home opener at 8 p.m.
