The Lindenwood women's gymnastics team opened its 2016 home season in front of a large crown that saw the Lady Lions take on No. 23 University of Missouri. The Lady Lions fell to the Tigers by a score of 195.200-192.000.
The Lady Lions hit the 192 mark for the second time in two meets this season, but got there two different ways. On Friday at Southeast Missouri, the team had a strong bars routine, but on Sunday, it was the team's beam event that got the team to 192 overall.
Three different Lady Lions scored a 9.725 on the beam, led by
Rachel Zabawa and
Hannah Rector who were the first two gymnasts to go for Lindenwood.
Kierstin Sokolowski also had a 9.725, and the other three Lady Lions all had over a 9.600. The final team score for the event was a 48.450, the tenth-best mark in program history.
Lindenwood started the competition with a 48.125 on the vault. Sokolowski led the Lady Lions with a 9.725. The Lady Lions struggled on the bars, scoring only a 47.450.
Andavea Alexander led the team in that event with a 9.700. On the floor, Lindenwood had a 47.975, with
Katey Oswalt having a team-high 9.775, just ahead of 9.750 scores by teammates Alexander and Zabawa.
Lindenwood is now 1-1 on the season. The Lady Lions will host a five-team competition next Friday at 6 p.m. at Hyland Arena. The other programs are Oregon State, Bridgeport, Wisconsin-Eau Claire, and Illinois State.
