The Lindenwood wrestling team picked up a 28-12 victory over No. 19 McKendree on Tuesday night, extending the Lions' winning streak to three. The Lions came into the dual ranked No. 10.
After falling against Central Missouri, Danny Swan responded today with a pin of his own. In the first round, neither wrestler scored a point as they each attempted a takedown multiple times. However, Swan came through with the first and only takedown which led to a loud eruption from the crowd and his second pin of the season. The freshman from Oak Forest, Ill. holds a record of 15-2.
Hunter Haralson entered the dual on a seven-match winning streak, and showed he attended to add onto that. Behind a late point from getting up, he showed high resilience as that point ultimately made the difference, solidifying a 3-2 decision.
In need of another victory after losing the next two matches, the Lions looked to
Terrel Wilbourn to put them back in the winning column. He dominated his opponent behind an 11-3 major decision that increased the Lions' lead by six. That major decision marked as Wilbourn's third of the season.
Like Haralson,
Kyle Jolas needed to compete hard to edge a tough opponent. Each wrestler were neck-in-neck heading into the final minute of the third round. However, Jolas came out on top after being rewarded one point for getting up after a takedown, giving the sophomore a 9-8 decision.
The Lions held a 16-9 lead heading into the 184-pound match.
Jake Landals rose to the occasion and gave the Lions a crucial victory by pinning his opponent 58 seconds into the first round.
The Lions were not finished though.
Dillon Archer also gave the Lions an extra boost in their lead after pinning his opponent in the first round which was the last win for the Lions. Archer's 18th victory of the season gave the Lions a 28-9 lead.
With the win, the Lions improved to 7-2 for the season while McKendree falls to 6-6. The Lions return to the mat on Friday for senior night at Hyland Arena. The first match starts at 7 pm.
