After returning from Christmas break, the Lindenwood wrestling team hosted its annual Lindenwood Duals on Friday that consisted of Ouachita Baptist, Truman State, and Wisconsin-Parkside. The Lions reeled off two lop-sided victories, but fell in the dual of the day.
The Lions, currently ranked No. 10 in the NCAA Division II polls, started the day off with a dual against Ouachita Baptist. Only losing two matches, the Lions pinned four Tigers, including a takedown from
Kyle Summers at 184 pounds that pumped up the crowd. The other three pins came from
Terrel Wilbourn,
Batchka Zulkhuu, and Jacob Borgmeyer. Kyles Jolas dominated his opponent by a 16-1 technical fall while
Dillon Archer registered a 16-3 major decision victory.
Greg Jacquez won by a 6-2 decision at 149 pounds. The Lions walked away with a 42-9 routing win.
Next up was Truman State, but the Lions showed zero sign of slowing down. Freshman
Derek Heil set the tone at 125 pounds by pinning his opponent to give the Lions a 6-0 lead.
Hunter Haralson followed up with a pin of his own, increasing his total to four this season. Wilbourn and Zulkhuu each picked up their second pins on the day to give the Lions four total pins against the Bulldogs. Borgmeyer and
Jared Mestas posted two technical falls, and Jolas and
Colton Orlando won by major decision. Summers Archer picked up their second victories for the day by decision. After tallying up the point total, the Lions shut out the Bulldogs 48-0.
The last and signature dual would be against No. 6 Wisconsin-Parkside. However, the Lions struggled to win close matches, losing six decisions to the Rangers. Wilbourn concluded his day filled with dominance by winning an 18-7 major decision. Haralson joined Wilbourn as the lone Lions to go undefeated for the day, edging his opponent by a 4-0 decision. On top of their tightly-contested victories, the Rangers pinned two Lions and routed another by major decision. The Rangers defeated the Lions by a final score of 31-6.
In addition to his fourth pin of the season, Haralson improved his record to 13-4. Wilbourn stands at 11-1 that includes three pins and two major decision victories. Behind his two victories, Jolas leads the team with 17 wins followed by Zulkhuu's 16.
After improving their record to 4-1, the Lions will travel to Edmond, Okla. on January 12 for their first MIAA dual of the season against Central Oklahoma. First match will start at 7 pm.
