Men's ice hockey was swept by Minot State with a 3-2 loss Saturday afternoon at the Lindenwood Ice Arena in Wentzville, Missouri, extending a Lions losing streak to three.
Since beginning the regular season, offense has been the issue for Lindenwood as the team has only been able to muster a total of seven goals in the first four games of the year. Â The Lions fell behind early to the No. 5 ranked Beavers, giving up a goal just under two minutes into the game. Â Lindenwood tied the score at one when Brennan Luscombe and freshman Austin Wilt set up captain Lukas Daniels with 3:27 left in the period. Â
Minot State pulled away after that, with a goal at 6:07 in the second, followed by a power play score with 11:13 remaining. Â The Lions cut the deficit to one when Daniels split the pipes on a play set up by Mike Lozano and Graham Zagrodney at 10:50, but Lindenwood couldn't find the equalizer. Â
The Lions outshot the Beavers 39-26, and Cody Karpinski stopped 23 of the 26 pucks he faced. Â Lindenwood was held scoreless on four, man-advantage opportunities while Minot State went 1-2 on the power play, including the game winner.
With the loss, Lindenwood dropped to 1-3-0, but the Lions will have several chances to right the ship in the next week with three home games in a span of four days. Â They'll host Colorado in a single contest on October 6 beginning at 7 p.m., then face Central Oklahoma in a two-game set October 8-9. Â The opening faceoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Â All three games will take place at the Lindenwood Ice Arena in Wentzville, Missouri, and all three will be available via pay-per-view live streaming through
STL Sports Productions.
