Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Lady Lions Record Second-Consecutive Shutout To Win 3-0 Against SBU

The Lindenwood women's soccer team won its second-consecutive match on Friday night, defeating Southwest Baptist 3-0 from Hunter Stadium.

The Lady Lions wasted no time gaining the early advantage. Becky Roberts scored her fifth goal of the season just three minutes into the contest on a shot perfectly placed in the bottom right corner of the net, after a centering pass from Taylor Wade set up the chance.

Lindenwood tried to capitalize on the Bearcats inability to possess in the offensive zone, but were unable to get a pass through the SBU defense to get a shot to the keeper. In the 23rd minute, the Lady Lions almost broke through again by Roberts on a perfect setup from Jackie Lindner, but the ball went just right nearly nicking the post.

In the 35th minute, Lindner and Roe ventured in the 18-yard box, but each shot it wide and kept the score at 1-0. SBU looked to have its first opportunity with eight minutes remaining in the half, but a close offsides call by the side official waved off the chance.

The remainder of the half ticked away without much action, and the whistle blew for halftime. At the break, the Lindenwood defense held the visitors to zero shots while the Lady Lions totaled nine with four on goal. Roberts had three of the four on net and Tayler Heinemeier tallied the other.

It took a little longer to keep the momentum in the second half, but the Lady Lions added another tally 15 minutes into the period. In its first chance of the half, Lindenwood forced a SBU foul and was awarded a free kick. Tayler Heinemeier nailed it off the cross bar and the ball bounced right to Autumn Olendorff, who put it in the back of the net just past the outstretched arms of the Bearcats' keeper to make it 2-0.

Roe almost increased to three a few minutes later, launching a pair of shots on goal, but the visiting keeper turned the attempts away. SBU almost took advantage of an error with 18 minutes left when Lauren Greenstein was unable to corral in a back pass from a teammate, but the Bearcat forward's shot went wide of the net.

Lindner made her presence felt once again, this time wrapping around a defender after a pass from Roberts and drilled it past the keeper in the near corner for her third goal of the season with 14 minutes remaining, which would prove to hold as the final.

Shining all season, the Lindenwood defense once again performed well tonight holding the Bearcats to just one shot. Greenstein was pulled with five minutes remaining, just short of recording her second shutout of the season.

The currently-ranked sixth team in the central region Lindenwood improves to 7-6-1 on the season and evens up its conference mark at 4-4. Greenstein wins her sixth match of the season.

Lindenwood comes back to Hunter Stadium on Sunday afternoon to play Missouri Southern. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
